Proactive coaching
Voice and vibration cues help you adjust before or as your heart rate leaves the target zone.
WHOOP’s lesser-known Heart Rate Broadcast feature can share your heart rate in real time. ZoneCue Cardio uses it to proactively guide your workout—so you can pursue a goal while you train, instead of being surprised by the results afterward.
Requires Android and a WHOOP device with Heart Rate Broadcast enabled.
More than a zone alarm
Choose the structure, zones and goal. ZoneCue handles the monitoring while you focus on moving.
Voice and vibration cues help you adjust before or as your heart rate leaves the target zone.
Use maximum heart rate, heart-rate reserve or custom ranges from your own training plan.
Stay steady in Zone 2, complete Norwegian 4×4 intervals or create studio-style zone workouts.
Train toward time, distance, time in zone or exertion goals—indoors or outdoors.
Review zone discipline, recovery, aerobic efficiency, exertion and longer-term trends.
Connect directly to WHOOP’s Heart Rate Broadcast over Bluetooth on your Android phone.
Learn your zones
Your body uses a mix of fat and carbohydrate for energy during cardio. As intensity rises, that balance gradually changes—it is not an on/off switch.
Easy and sustainable. Useful for recovery and adding activity volume.
Substantial fat contribution, meaningful aerobic conditioning and sustainable for longer sessions.
A stronger tempo effort as carbohydrate demand begins to rise.
Hard threshold work with greater reliance on glycogen and faster fatigue.
Near-maximal, carbohydrate-dominant work that is difficult to sustain.
The useful middle ground
Zone 2 is hard enough to provide a meaningful aerobic stimulus, moderate enough to maintain substantial fat oxidation and easy enough to sustain. With consistent aerobic training, your mitochondria (aerobic engines inside your muscle cells) can become more numerous and efficient, helping you produce more energy aerobically and do more work at the same heart rate.
Zone 2 is not the only valuable training zone. It is simply one of the most practical places to build your aerobic foundation.
Keep the distinction clear
A workout can emphasize fat oxidation without guaranteeing a loss of body fat. Long-term changes in body fat also depend on overall energy intake and expenditure over time.
Heart-rate zones are estimates and vary by person, method and device. This lesson is general fitness education, not medical advice.

What beta testers do
Join the closed Google Play test using the Google Account email in your application.
Complete at least two cardio workouts and test the WHOOP connection and coaching cues.
Tell us what happened—including bugs, confusing moments and features that helped.
Limited beta
We’re looking for a mix of Android phones, WHOOP models and cardio routines. The beta is free, and every current feature is included.
